Weekly NY Giant Power Rankings (Top 5 Favorites)

Schof and I were discussing some new material for this otherwise dead blog. Here is a way to ignite some more sports discussion (aside from Romo-Homo-Cop) I think the rest can chime in with our weekly top 5 favorites. The rules for this discussion would be your top 5 favorite Giants, not necessarily for the week, but as a continual power ranking so for instance you might have a Giant you still feel is top 5 however he doesn't have a good week, his power ranking could drop but still be included.

Let the power rankings of your favorite Giants begin along with your overall analysis...I will post mine shortly!

Okay my top 5 Giants:

5 - Kenny Phillips: Mark my words, he will be the best strong safety the Giants have had in years.

4 - Aaron Ross: He's consistently on the other team's #1 receiver and he gets better every week (if he doesn't get cheap garbage pass interference calls).

3 - Steve Smith: The modern day Amani Toomer. He doesn't light up fantasy points but he lights up 3rd down catches on a weekly basis.

2 - Justin Tuck: How can you be a Giant fan and not have this guy in your top 5 right now? Not to mention a former golden domer.

1 - Eli: probably will stay here until he is no longer a Giant

My top 5 Giant power rankings go as such:

5. Justin Tuck
I made the bold statement after one game that he is better than Osi...I think he has proven that he is this team's top defender, he makes clutch plays on interior line and is a beast. My favorite D Lineman right now for sure.
4. Domenik Hixon
Hixon makes it in at number 4 because he is probably the most versatile player on the team being able to Kick and Punt return and fill the void when Burress is banged up. In both games where he stepped in to fill Burress' absence he has had phenomenal games. There is no reason why he can't step up as the number 2 or 3 guy and also return both punts and kicks as you saw this week in AZ.
3. Brandon Jacobs
Jacobs can sometimes annoy you with his running style but this year I have seen improvement and he comes to play. 164 for 879 and 11 TD...he is leading the way with their bread and butter offense...the run game!
2. Steve Smith
I love this guy, he is quick, has exceptional hands and when you need a 3rd down conversion he is your man to keep the chains moving. In my mind since last season’s playoffs (you will be amazed when you go back and see what he did, I mean you take it for granted now...but go back and watch him in some of those playoff games) he has been this team’s MVP thus far...I can't praise him enough
1. Eli Manning
Right now its hard to debate anyone else being the number one power ranked player on the Giants. He looses his starting RB and WR this week and still throws for 3 TDs and leads the offense to consecutive scores which were crucial in this game. Without him they certainly are not the best team in the league right now!

HM
Plaxico Burress
The start of the season I would have had him in, I don't right now because of his health and his lack of production, but because he is still one of the top 5 receivers in the league...let alone the Giants...I have to put him here

Derrick Ward
120 rushes for 600 yards and 2 scores, now this stat line is deceiving because I think he is a perfect compliment to Jacobs and the Giants run game, without Ward the Giants might not be 10-1, surely is the 'wind' in this RB threesome.

Kenny Phillips
A rookie makes the list because I think he has the potential to be the best d-back the Giants have and alot of it is going unnoticed right now. Big time player in my mind.

John Carney
Ok I have a certain allegiance to kickers as I was one. But he is as dead on as any kicker I have ever seen the Giants have, why mess with putting Tynes in...Keep this crafty vet in there, he punches them through with no problem and is automatic!

Shaun O'Hara
He is the best on this number one rated line...should be a pro bowler for sure

Chris Snee
He too needs to be in the pro bowl, without him no wholes for the RBs to run through

Players I am down on:
Toomer - Yeah I know he can make some big plays and he does have a few key TDs this year that otherwise without the Giants might not win the Pitt game and even this AZ game. But he drops balls he should catch and when you want him to get a 1st down he pussy foots...you clearly did not see Smith or Hixon doing that!?!?!

Not one fucking mention of Corey Webster???? This guy is one of the premier corners in the league this season, and has been the player most responsible for the resurgence of the Giants' secondary . . .

Kevin Boss has gotta get a little love as well . . . the Giants certainly do it by committee, so he is probably under-utilized to an extent, but that hasn't stopped him from leading the team in TD receptions and ranking in the top 20 league-wide . . .

Fat Fred Robbins has also been a load in the middle of that defense . . .

The Giants have the most balanced team I have seen since, well, last season's Patriots . . . ranking in the top five in the league in points scored (#1), yardage, points yielded, and yardage yielded . . .

Of course, we all know waht happened to the mighty Pats . . . hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha . . .

Aaron, to be honest I have Corey Webster ranked high actually. He's not in my top 5, but had I dont an honorable mention section like Salati did, he would be there. I see him moving in the top 5 very soon.

Fred Robbins certainly should get some love, I think he could move up into my HM and even top 5, banged up right now though. Webster certainly has made a resurgence in this secondary but based on skill, and believe me we are talking amongst the elite in skill, not to take anything away from Webster...if he is that good...Ross and Phillips might actually be better. Boss is working his way up, no doubt.
