Finally some movement after finals week and the college kids head home to hijack the family roadster and copulate outside their previous social circles.
1 - Memphis - The 2nd half v. G'Town was a thing of beauty. Not only are they athletic but they know how to play team defense.
2 - North Carolina
3 - Kansas
4 - Texas - A close game between top 10 teams means only a notch drop.
5 - Duke - Thought Pitt might give them trouble
6 - Washington State
7 - Tennessee - Lofton seems to have regained his stroke thanks to a Xavier team that is somewhat overrated.
8 - Texas A & M
9 - Indiana
10 - Michigan State - It's a big bump but when a team has a player who isn't one of the name guys step up against a potential Final 4 squad I take notice.
11 - UCLA - They struggled against a Michigan squad which lost to Harvard which lost to Sacred Heart.
12 - Georgetown - Hibbert will struggle against athletic types at the next level.
13 - Marquette
14 - Pitt - Didn't go much higher b/c Cook is a big loss for them.
15 - Brigham Young
16 - Butler - They barely beat a school with a similar name to BCC.
17 - Gonzaga - I disagree with the AP and USA polls bouncing them. Don't be surprised if they bounce Tennessee.
18 - Villanova
19 - West Virginia
20 - St. Mary's
21 - Vanderbilt - Undefeated but barely against teams they should beat easily.
22 - Miami (Fla.)
23 - Arizona
24 - Stanford
25 - Ole Miss - They are the sole new entry replacing the team they knocked off in San Juan. A real fun team to watch with their lightning-fast pace.
Memo to refs: I can understand putting the leash on coaches but when Bruce Pearl is trying to coach his team, that is not a technical. The rules committee should knock skulls and commit to an understanding of enforcing that rule.

Bald Wonder...great job on the top 25 rankings on a weekly basis.
I am not about to rank the top 25 myself because I go pretty much by the book but thus far here are the teams that stand out to me this year that should be either in the final four or in contention for a final four appearance come March.
Marcus / Davols...feel free to chime in
Pitt - DeJuan Blair right now is proving to be the best freshmen in the a nation averaging 12.1 pts per game and 10.1 rebounds a game (he had 20 against Duke on the national stage which opened my eyes to how good this guy is going to be)
UNC - This is no surprise but what is surprising to me is that they are maintaining consistency. I don't think anyone is going to stop them espically with Hansborough setting up to have another fantastic All-America year. I think he is the best player in the nation. And all around this is the best starting 5 in the nation as well.
Memphis - Everyone had them as a team to watch out for and were the sexy pick in the top 5 of almost everyone's pre-season top 25. I think Callipari has his kids buying into his system and he is starting something at Memphis. I am shocked that they have not dropped a game or two that they shouldn't and got a big win against a very good G-Town team. I still think at some point they will come down a bit to reality and drop a few games they should win but still they are going to be a 1 seed and picked as a favorite in the Final Four.
G-Town - I haven't seen much of them yet this year but will get enough come the Beast schedule. The big man is going to prove to be a vital piece if this team wants to win a championship. They are my pick to win the Big East this year, however I still think they need another year before they cut down the nets...won't happen in San Antonio this year!
Washington State - The COUGARS have definitely proven they are not LOSERS at the beginning of this college bball season. The writing was on the wall that they would be good, but I think they are better than everyone expected and we still haven't seen the extent of how good they really can be. They had a nice win against Gonzaga which was just a showcase for what is to come. The triple threats of Derrick Low, Kyle Weaver, and Aron Baynes are going to prove to be very solid and a big headache for opponents. I like them to take the Pac-10 hands down!
Those are, maybe to no surprise, the teams that I am keeping an eye out for this season. Aside from UNC and Memphis who I can almost gurantee will make the Final Four, expect Pitt, G-Town, or Wash St. to be in contention as well.
Although the Orange are struggling a bit, for me, it is shaping up to be a very good college bball season.

And to add to my Pitt comment - Yes Cook is a big loss but Dixon is looking pretty good right now as an early front runner for coach of the year and I think with the young freshmen and supporting cast Pitt is going to be very dangerous and should make a nice run in the tourney!
It hasn't been a great year so far with either of my teams, though I could see 'Cuse making a nice run in the Big East and surprising some people. Kentucky on the other hand, not so much. They haven't figured out the concept of an entry pass to the paint which makes Patterson's play so far more impressive.
Wazzu has an interesting three-game stretch to start the Pac-10. I like their chances as they shouldn't get flustered.
Starting the second week in January, I should be able to post a weekly tournament breakdown complete with seedings. As Aaron will readily attest I am a college basketball geek with time on my hands.
Well thanks for posting so much college bball...this forum basically has been non-existant until your recent contributions. I am a college bball junkie myself but with not as much time on my hands as I use to have. I certainly will chime in from time to time espically once the Cuse gets going in the BE. I am certainly looking forward to bracketlogy breakdowns. Keep up the good work!
