Now, I'm not talking in an all-time sense (obviously, Stockton's longevity makes that an unfair comparison), but rather who would you rather have, the Steve Nash of the last three seasons or a prime John Stockton - say, the late 80s/early 90s version????
- Both are/were incredibly gifted playmakers with huge assist numbers and great assist to turnover ratios;
- Both can/could shoot well from anywhere (inside the arc, from the charity stripe, and from three);
- Both are/were consummate team players, and team leaders;
- Both contribute/d at tremendous clips in the postseason;
- While Nash has his two MVPs to Stockton's zero, a prime Stockton was as much a perennial all-NBA player as is Nash;
The thing that might put a prime Stockton on top might be the fact that a prime Stockton made a SLEW of second team All-NBA defensive teams, something Nash will probably never see.
I also believe that Nash has had more talent surrounding him during his present run than Stockton did (Malone notwithstanding) in his prime.
What do you guys think?
