Interesting you threw in Shumpert. I would have to rank my top 5 as being:

Carmelo Anthony
Hakim Warrick
Gerry McNamera
Billy Edeline (although a shortened career with out him the 2003 team probably doesn't win a championship)
Kueth Duany (have we seen a darker player with leadership skills before? Again another intrical part of the championship run)

Honorable Mention:
Preston Shumpert - could score but had the lazy attitude and the bickering with DeShaun left the team in turmoil
Jeremy McNeil - The last true big man that could give you solid minutes, not like what we see with today's team.
Demetris Nichols - The verdict is still out on him, although he is going to be a great scorer when its all said and done, one of the most quiet contributors in SU history!!!
Josh Pace - In the words of Billy Raftery "Not flashy....but effective" how could I leave out a player that I try to emulate my own personal style of play after...a lefty that only has a left hand but makes it work in the pant and can be tough to stop at time...the only difference I have some what of a jump shot!!!

I thougt about edelin but the body of work just isn't there. If we were going on pure talent I'd have him ahead of shumpert but there just isn't enough of a body of work.

Regarding Shumpert, I too was never a huge fan due to the fact that he always seemed lazy and was very one dimensional, but you can't argue with the numbers, which were impressive. I think although Nichols can be frusterating at times, he's deserves to be in there. You realize he's shooting 50% from 3 pt range this year. And its not like he isn't taking a lot of shots. By comparison, Shumpert, who may remember as a great 3 point shooter, shot 38% from 3 his senior year. I realize nichols will come down a bit once the Beast starts but still, 50% from 3 is impressive in shoot around.

The "Big 3" of Anthony, Warrick, and G-Mac are no-brainers . . . Shumpert is as well . . . the fifth guy, however, is difficult . . . as much as it pains me to say, Nichols might be that guy . . . but I also like Damone Brown, Edelin, Pace, Duany, McNeil . . . hmmmmm . . .

Shumpert makes my 1st honorable mention, the fact that although his numbers are better than most his presence was not and that I take into account.

Edeline's best year was his SO. year obviously totaling 235 points 13.8 points per game and an average of 5.2 assists per game and he also sat out that season for what 7 games.

Shumpert's best year was his senior year when he totalled 744 points and averaged 20.7 points per game.

Even though they are two different styles of players and each played different roles on there teams, who knows what Edeline could have done if he stayed and actually played each entire season.

The determing factor for me is the fact that Edeline was an intrical part of a championship where Shumpert was an interical part of getting punched in the eye by "you ain't that nice n**ga DeShaun"

I think I would have been more apt to have Shumpert in the top 5 had he not gotten the Todd Burgan syndrome and actually not contracted "Pink Eye" from DeShaun.

D. Brown was nice and I didn't throw him in the honorable mentioned because he didn't play very long into the new millenium, as he graduated in '01...however I will add him to my honorable mention list!!!
